Nepal No 1 pro Shiva Ram Shrestha and his team won the Surya Nepal Eastern Open Pro-Am title at the par-70 Nirvana Country Club Health and Golf Resort in Dharan on Saturday.
Shrestha teamed up with amateurs Samir Acharya, Ritesh Tamang, and Tek Bahadur Rai finished with 151 points to secure top spot. Shrestha scored 37 points while Acharya bagged 42, Tamang carded 37 and Tek earned 36 points. The team of pro Shiva Kumar Majhi finished runners up with 141 points.
Majhi, who collected 37 points, played alongside amateurs BM Sunwar (36), Babindra Rai (35), and Rajesh Rai (34) scored for the team. Team led by pro Dipak Magar secured third position with 136 points. He scored 35 points while, amateurs Bom Prasad Limbu (34), Biren Limbu (34) and Norkin Pakhrin (33) were his teammates. Sumod Bastakoti bagged closest to the pin and Ritesh Tamang got the longest drive.
Altogether 36 players took part in the Pro-Am event played under stableford full handicap format. Top scorer from the Surya Nepal Eastern Open was automatically paired with top three amateurs. Fourth, fifth and sixth amateur scorer were teamed with second best professional scorer and amateurs finishing seventh, eighth and ninth were joined by the third best professional.
Vice President of Nepal Golf Association (NGA) Tilak Rai, Vice Chancellor of BPKIHS Professor Doctor Raj Kumar Rauniyar President of Sunsari District Golf Association Maj Dal Bahadur Rai handed over the prizes to the winners.
Meanwhile, NGA provided Dharan amateur golfer Sukra Bahadur Rai a house to live in. Vice chancellor Dr Raj Kumar Rauniyar handed over the key of the house to Sukra and his father Laxman. NGA, Sunsari District Golf Association had raised funds to built house for Sukra’s family who were living in a makeshift shed. On Friday, Rai had claimed the title of Eastern Open on Friday.
