Novice Boxing Championships: Sunar, Rai earn semi-final berths

Abhishek Sunar of Dang and Bishal Rai of Sunsari entered the U-24 men’s 49kg division semi-finals at the first Novice National Boxing Championships held at the National Sports Council covered hall in Tripureshwor on Friday.
Rai beat Suraj Syangtan while Rai dispatched Kumar Budhathoki of Gulmi in their quarter-final bouts. Joining them in the last-four was Dipesh Rai of Kathmandu Boxing Club. Buddha Lama of Lalitpur, Padam Shahi of Dang, Abhishek Adhikari of Jimkhana and Jiwan Pun of Nepal Boxing Association (NBA) also booked tickets to the semi-finals of the U-24 men’s 52kg weight division.
Making it to the U-24 men’s 56kg weight division semi-finals were Puran Rajkot of Kaski, Rabin Ghimire of Sunsari, Sujan Paudel of Bhaktapur and Dikesh Lama of Platinum. Manish Bhandari of Naxal, Pawan Gurung of Kaski, Kamal Shrestha of NBA and Bibek Singh of Naxal also secured semi-finals berths in the 64kg weight division in the same age-group category.
Advancing to the U-24 men’s 75kg division semi-finals were Amen Maharjan of Meghdoot, Prince Khadka of Tikathali, Ganesh BK of Dang and Suman Maharjan of Platinum.
Sushila Thapa of Dang and Ramita Shrestha of Naxal advanced to the U-19 women’s 48kg division semi-finals. Making it to the U-19 women’s 51kg division semi-finals were Aruna Yonzon of Jhapa and Teji Gurung of Naxal.
