WKFC gets Atletico help
The Spanish League giants Atletico Madrid on Friday joined hands with Naikap’s West Kathmandu Football Club (WKFC) for the development of Nepali football.
The Spanish League giants Atletico Madrid on Friday joined hands with Naikap’s West Kathmandu Football Club (WKFC) for the development of Nepali football. Atletico will provide football kits to 80 footballers of the WKFC in addition to supplying nutritions in the first year through its foundation. Atletico’s international expansion and academy manager Fernando Lopez and Bhawan Bhatta, the president of BB Trust who initiated the tie-up, signed the Memorandum of Understanding in Kathmandu on Friday. Bhatta is also the president of Non Residential Nepali Association (NRNA) and the Atletico Foundation will provide support to the club through BB Trust.
As per the MoU, Atletico foundation will send its coach to Nepal for training and facilitate in providing training Nepali coach in Spain as well. According to Lopez, the foundation will also arrange training for talented WKFC players in Atletico Academy. He also assured of upgrading the WKFC’s Naikap playground with astro turf. “We go for result when we are involved in any such projects. We are serious about the partnership and we are getting good cooperation for the Nepali side. I hope this programme will run for long time,” he said.
Atletico have been spending one percent of its annual budget through the foundation and they have been supporting community schools in different countries including Portugal, Nicaragua, Morocco, India and Haiti among others. According to NRNA Europe Deputy Coordinator Eakraj Giri, Atletico have assured them of increasing support to WKFC on the basis of annual progress report.
