Nepal secured their berth for the semifinal of the Saff Championship after defeating hosts Bangladesh 2-0 on Saturday.
Bimal Gharti Magar opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when his free kick was misjudged by Bangladeshi goalkeeper and spilled into the post. Nawayug Shrestha ensured the victory and the place in the semifinal in the 90th minute when he slammed Bishal Rai’s pass into the net.
Nepal also topped their group with the victory and will now play against the second-placed team of the other group. India, Sri Lanka and Maldives are in Group B.
Pakistan also qualified into the semifinal after their 3-0 victory against Bhutan in a match played earlier. Bhutan returned home after conceding nine goals and scoring none.
