Sandeep Lamichhane played a major role in Montreal Tigers’ second victory in the Global Twenty20 Canada on Tuesday as the Nepali leg-spinner picked up three wickets keeping his team alive in the race for the playoffs.

At the King City ground in Toronto, Sandeep’s fine bowling display led Tigers to six-wicket victory over West Indies ‘B’ in their only second round fixture. The win lifted Tigers to fifth spot and will now wait for last second round game between Edmonton Royals (five pts) and Winnipeg Hawks. Sandeep’s side is tied on four points with Hawks and if the latter lose by a huge margin against Royals, Tigers might sneak into the playoffs on net run rate.

After the round robin league, the equation might change in the points table with bottom team needing to play top side, second and fifth-placed teams meeting each other along with clash between third and fourth placed team in the second round. Following Tuesday’s result, Windies ‘B’ were pushed to second spot and are now overtaken by Vancouver Knights. The top four teams advance to the playoffs.

Barring his first match against the Windies ‘B’ where he was smashed for 57 runs, Sandeep has bounced back in the tournament having taken seven wickets so far. On Tuesday, he applied brakes on West Indies ‘B’ run flow picking up three crucial wickets including that of day’s top scorer Shamar Springer.

Brandon King (23) and Nicholas Pooran (25) were next best scorers for West Indies ‘B’ and the middle order duo also fell to Sandeep. Springer made 62 off 40 with seven boundaries and three sixes. Apart from Sandeep, whose returned with figures of 3-31 from four overs, Cecil Pervez also took two wickets for Tigers.

Sunil Narine led the Tigers chase, clubbing nine sixes in his 25-ball 61 and shared 71 runs for the second wicket with Moises Henriques (32). Sikandar Raza (32 not out) and Najibullah Zadran (29 not out) completed the chase with a 44-run fifth wicket partnership. Khary Pierre took two wickets for West Indies ‘B’.
