Morang FC and Brigade Boys Club (BBC) advanced to the quarter-finals of the Lalit Memorial U-18 Football Championship with wins in Group ‘B’ at the Anfa Complex in Satdobato on Thursday.

Morang edged Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) 2-1 to finish on top of the group and condemned the latter to third place. BBC thumped bottom side Nepal Police Club (NPC) 5-1 in a must-win game to qualify for the knockout stage. The outcome means Morang finished the group on top with seven points, two ahead of BBC.
JYC ended up in third while NPC, already out from the quarter-final race, were sent packing without a win in the four-team group. Only top two teams from each of the four groups enter knockout stage.
Rithik Khadka stole the show in BBC win scoring four goals after their skipper Jay Gurung had put them ahead in the 24th minute.
Rithik made it 2-0 in the 24th minute. NPC cut the deficit in the 34 through Pradip Baniya. Rithik netted his second goal in the 41st and completed his hat-trick in the 55th. He sealed the comprehensive victory with fourth goal in the 62nd minute.
In the late match, Ashish Chaudhary’s late goal became decisive in Morang’s win over JYC. Ashish netted two minutes from time to rescue Morang. Suraju Thakuri had given the 25th minute lead to Morang before Darshan Gurung equalised in the first half stoppage time.
Apart from Morang and BBC, Tribhuvan Army Club and Lumbini FC from Group ‘A’ have made it to the quarter-finals. They will be joined by Group ‘D’ winners Friends Club and runners up Himalayan Sherpa Club. Jhapa finished as Group ‘B’ winners while the runners-up from the group are yet to be decided. Either Chyasal Youth Club or Sankata Club will complete the quarter-final lineup.
