The second victory from as many matches in four-team group confirmed Jhapa finish at the top of the table and send them to knockout stages with a match in hand. In another match of the same group, Chyasal Youth Club beat Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club 2-1 end the latter’s quarter-finals hopes. Both Sankata and Chyasal, with a win and a defeat, have three points and will square off on Friday for a place in the knockout stage.
Dojohang Lingden broke the deadlock for Jhapa one minute before the interval but last edition’s runners-up Sankata restored the parity in the 55th minute through Dhiraj Gurung goal. Shyam Mummu made it 2-1 for Jhapa three minutes later but Ujjwol Basnet equalised in the 64th. Roman Bhujel netted the third for Jhapa in the 75th minute, scoring from through penalty.
The late match of the day saw Chyasal score both the goals against APF in the first half. Sunny Byanjankar gave 26th minute lead to Chyasal before Sher Tamang doubled the advantage in the 31st. APF pull back a late consolation in the stoppage time through Bishwash Thapa Magar.
Tribhuvan Army Club and Lumbini FC have already made it to knockout stage as the winners and runners-up from Group ‘A’ while Friends Club and Himalayan Sherpa Club from Group ‘D’ have booked the last eight berths as the winners and runners-up.
