Phuyal wins Gokarna medal

Seven handicap golfer, Phuyal shot six-under 66 nett points to win the trophy. He was also eligible for the gross title after carding one-over 73 but due to one player one prize rule, Wangchen Dhondup took the gross winner award on countback after being tied with Tashi Tshiring at three-over 75.
Dhondup carded two-over 38 gross on the back nine and Tashi three-over 39. Purna Bahadur Rai and Jigme Dongstetang were tied at three-under 69 but the former finished second on countback as his nett score for back nine was two-under 34 against even-par 36 of Dongstetang.
Three junior golfers Ang Phurba Sherpa, Mayank Dahal, and Shreeyog Basnyat were tied at five-under 67 nett score. Sherpa won on countback with eight-under 28 on the back nine. Basnyat had two-under 34 and Dahal was at one-over 37. In all, 38 amateur golfers took part in the tournament played under strokeplay format with full handicap allowance.
A total of 10 medal rounds will be played until December. In each medal round top 10 players in nett, top five players in gross and top five in junior categories will earn points. First place in nett category from each event will earn 100 points and runners-up will receive 60 points.
Forty points will be awarded to third-placed golfer, 35 to fourth, 30 to fifth and so on. In the Gross and Junior categories top five scorer’s will be rewarded with 100, 60, 40, 35 and 30 points respectively.
After the completion of 10 medal rounds top 40 golfers in nett category, top 10 in gross category and top five of junior category will qualify for the Club Championships. The Club Championship final will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
Phuyal currently lead the nett category with 115 points followed by Prabhakar Adhikari, who has 100 points to his credits. Jigme Dongstetang is third with 65 while Ang Dendi Sherpa and Purna Bahadur Rai are tied fourth with 60.
Tashi Tshiring leads the gross category with 140 points, ahead of Phuyal (130 pts), Dhondup (120 pts) and Tashi dong (75 pts). Ang Phurba Sherpa is atop the junior category 200 points followed by Sam Doublard (90 pts) and Arnav Shah (75 pts).
