Rai, Chaudhary set new national records

Sangita Rai, Devi Kumari Chaudhary and Sanju Chaudhary set national records during the first Inter-club National Weightlifting Championship in Lalitpur on Wednesday.
In the senior women’s 48kg division, Rai shattered 12-year-old record in snatch as well as in total besides bettering her own national mark in clean and jerk. She lifted 54kg to better Nita Thapa’s record of 53.5kg in snatch. She also bettered her clean and jerk record of 66kg after she lifting 69kg. In total, she lifted 123kg to surpass Thapa’s total weight record of 118.5kg. Manisha Ranabhat won silver and Rita bronze medal.
Devi Kumari of Nepal Police Club (NPC) set snatch record in senior women’s 53kg division. She snatched 65kg to better Sanju Chaudhary’s 63kg mark set earlier this year in Pokhara. Devi clean and jerked 80kg and lifted a total of 145kg to win gold. Saraswati Chaudhary won silver in the event.
Sanju of Om Fitness and Order Suppliers better her own national record in junior women’s 53kg division. She snatched 64kg, clean and jerked 84kg for a total lift of 148kg. Earlier, she had set the record of 63kg in snatch, 82kg in clean and jerk for total of 145kg lift.
Karina Chaudhary of Galaxy Fitness won gold in junior women’s 48kg division, lifting a total of 93kg. Pallavi Chaudhary of Divine Fitness finished second and Radha Bhujel of Galaxy third. Women’s junior 58kg saw Sital Ghimire of Sports Hive win gold while Kajal Yadav claimed gold in junior 58kg division.
Army’s Tularam Mahato won the senior men’s 56kg gold medal and Ram Kumar Yadav of Kharsal Youth Club won the gold in junior category. Army’s Raju Chaudhary collected senior men’s 62kg gold while junior men’s gold went to Ramesh Jha of Kharsal. Kathmandu District Weightlifting Association is the organisers of the two-day event.
