At the National Sports Council covered hall, APF rallied from two sets down to beat New Diamond Academy to claim women’s title. TAC, meanwhile, prevailed over Help Nepal Sports Club in straight sets. TAC won the first set 25-15 and in the only time they had to sweat was in the second game which they claimed 25-21. They won the third set 25-14. Help Nepal had pinned their hopes on Indian spikers but they failed to click in a crunch match. In the third place playoff, APF eased to a 25-21, 25-11, 25-19 victory over Nepal Police Club (NPC).
New Diamond looked like they were going to spring surprise in the women’s final after they won the first two sets 25-16, 25-16. But APF bounced back to take the next three sets 25-14, 25-13, 25-9. NPC finished third after they laboured hard to beat TAC 25-23, 22-25, 24-26, 25-12, 15-13. The top three finishers in both the categories got Rs 15,000, Rs 100,000, Rs 60,000.
Pratibha Mali of New Diamond and Man Bahadur Shrestha of TAC were declared the best player of the tournament and got Rs 15,000 apiece. In the women’s section, Saraswati Chaudhary (spiker), Hira KC (server) and Gyanendra Bista (coach) of APF took the individual honours along with Salina Shrestha (libero) and Kripa Adhikari (setter) of New Diamond.
TAC dominated the men’s presentation ceremony with Durga Mahato (setter), Dhan Bahadur Bhatta (server), Ishwar Thapa (libero) and Kapil Kishor Shrestha (coach) claiming individual awards. Lalit Kumar Bista of Help Nepal was adjudged the best spiker.
