Nepal, who open their qualifying campaign with a match against the hosts Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Sunday, had defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by five wickets on Tuesday. Apart from the hosts, Nepal are pitted in Group ‘B’ with Afghanistan, Hong Kong and Scotland.
The top three teams from each of the two pools advance to the Super Six round, where three berths will be available to gain the one-day international status. The top three Association nation will join World Cricket League Championship winners the Netherlands in gaining ODI status until 2022.
As the West Indies, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Ireland are the Full ICC members, Nepal, the UAE, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea and Scotland will be at least look to pounce on earning the incentive if not earn qualification to the World Cup itself.
