Baluwatar Cricket Club and Royal PC Fighter advanced to the semi-finals of the Khukuri Challenger Twenty20 cricket tournament on Wednesday.
Baluwatar beat Makwanpur Cricket Club by 22 runs while Royal PC advanced after the disqualification of their quarter-final opponents Inter-District Cricket Club, who was deemed breaching the tournament regulations. Baluwatar will take on Shantinagar Youth Club and Royal PC will play against Kathmandu Cricket Training Centre (KCTC) in the semi-finals at the Tribhuvan University Ground on Thursday.
At the Mulpani Cricket Ground, Baluwatar posted 167-6 in their allotted 20 overs with Prithu Baskota and Suman Uday doing the bulk of scoring. Makwanpur were dismissed for 145 in 18.5 overs.
Skipper Baskota scored 45, his 40-ball knock included three fours and a six, while Uday made 39-ball 44 with six hits to the fence.
Opening batsman Pranit Thapa Magar also chipped in 25 and Sonu Tamang an unbeaten 20. Ashim Shrestha claimed two while Hashim Ansari and Robin Gurung took one wicket each for Makwanpur.
In reply, Ansari was the only bright spot in the Makwanpur run chase as none of the other batsmen were able to added significant runs to the total. Ansari clobbered six boundaries in his fiery 27-ball 47. No 10 batsman Dinesh Adhikari (15) chipped in the second best runs in hapless Makwanpur batting performance. Man-of-the-match Kshitiz Singh took three while Ritesh Singh and Siddhant Raj Shahi snared two wickets apiece for Baluwatar.
