Bastola, Rana claim titles, earn top seeds
Abhishek Bastola of Western Region and Mayanka Rana of Nepal Police Club (NPC) finished unbeaten to claim the singles title of the 14th National Lawn Tennis Tournament under NSC Championships at Satdobato tennis courts on Tuesday.

Bastola eased past Pradip Khadka of Western Region 6-2, 6-0 in the sixth round and overcame Santosh Khatri of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club 6-0, 6-0in the final round to finish the tournament unbeaten. He wrapped up with seven wins to earn top seeding in the event played under round-robin league format. In all 16 players were dividing into four groups with the best two finishers in each group advancing for the round robin league organised to determine the seedings to players.
Samrakshyak Bhusan Bajracharya of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) earned second seed with six wins and a defeat. He beat Kamal Bahadur Bhandari of NPC 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 in the penultimate round and Dawa Sherpa 6-2, 6-0 in the following round. Pranab Khanal of TAC stood third with five wins and two defeats.
He registered identical 6-1, 6-1 wins over APF duo Santosh Khatri and Shree Ram Magar. Kamal Bahadur Bhandari of NPC, Shree Ram Magar and Santosh Khatri of APF, Dawa Sherpa of NPC and Pradip Khatri of Western Region earned fourth to eighth seedings in men’s section.
The women’s singles event saw Rana twins Mayanka and Mahika secure first and second seedings. NPC’s Mayanka beat Abhilasha Bista of TAC 6-3, 6-0 in the first match of the day before securing a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bijisha Shrestha of APF. She finished with six wins in the round-robin format contested by seven players.
Mahika of NPC saw off Anne Mathema of APF 6-4, 6-2 and enjoyed walkover in the next round. She finished with four wins and two defeats. Mathema, who suffered a 6-3, 6-2 defeat to Abhilasha Bista of TAC in the last match, earned third seeding with four wins and two defeats.
Ganga Sharma of Wesern Region finished in fourth seed in women’s section with three wins and defeats each. She received walkover in the first match of the day and beat Bhagwati BK of APF 6-4, 6-1 in the following rounds. Abhilash Bista of TAC, Bijish Shrestha of APF and Bhagwati BK of TAC earned fifth to seventh seedings.
