Athletics team India-bound

A seven-member Nepali athletics team, including five players, is leaving for Orissa, India, on Tuesday to compete in the 22nd Asian Athletics Championship slated for July 7-9.
Gopi Chandra Parki will compete in men’s 5,000m and 10,000m races while Som Bahadur Kumal will vie in men’s 400m and 800m categories.
Olympian Saraswati Bhattarai will take part in the women’s 800m and 1,500m races. Keshari Chaudhary will compete in women’s long jump and triple jump while Chandrakala Lamgade will vie in javelin throw and shot-put events. Nepal Athletics Association Secretary RK Bista is the team manager while Bimal Rana Magar is coach. The event will feature about 800 players from 45 countries. (PR)
