As per the deal, the departmental teams will get sports kits worth Rs 2.5 million annually for the next three years from Hansaraj Hulaschand. Nepal Army Major General Dev Kumar Subedi and Hansraj Hulaschand Deputy General Manager Yogain Gurung exchanged the memorandum of understanding at the Army headquarters.
The Army teams—both men and women—will now don pulsar motorbike imprinted jerseys during tournaments they participate in.
Nepal Army Spokesperson and Brigadier General Jhankar Bahadur Kadayat said: “Army athletes will always try to come up with better results at both the domestic and international front and support like this will definitely help motivate them to fare even better,” he said.
Hansaraj Hulaschand Managing Director Shekhar Golchha termed Army football team as one of the best in the country. “Army club have won several domestic tournaments and have also left a good mark at international level,” said Golchha adding that the company had been supporting sports since long time.
He also clarified that the purpose of sponsorship was solely to encourage players rather than for business motive. “Sports have its own significance and uniqueness. While the politics has divided people, sports have unified them,” Golchha said. Golcha also promised to provide best quality sports kits to the Army teams as per the requirement. “We will provide branded sports kits from renowned companies.”
Army’s men’s team is one of the top top-tier clubs of the country, winning four knockout season last season: Bikash Running Shield (Chitwan), Suman Bhomjan Memorial Cup (Hetauda), Manmohan Gold Cup (Duhabi) and Bikash Memorial Gold Cup (Birgunj).
They also missed out clinching more silverwares, finishing runners-up in nine other tournaments. They ened up in second in the last National League held three years ago.
