Lama’s team win Pro-Am title
The team of professional golfer Sanjay Lama clinched the Pro-Am title of the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club on Friday.The team of professional golfer Sanjay Lama clinched the Pro-Am title of the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club on Friday.
Pro Lama was teamed up with amateurs Charlie Gurung, Bharat Bastakoti, and Tashi Dong to accumulate 160 points to win the trophy. Pro Lama scored 43 points, Gurung earned 41, Bastakoti and & Dong scored 38 each. The team of pro Ramesh Nagarkoti (38) and amateurs Babu Sherpa (37), Col Bikash Shah (37), and Atma Ram Simkhada (37) finished second with a total score of 149. The team of pro Sachin Bhattarai (38) and amateurs Kanchan Basnyat (36), Prithivi Malla (36) and Pratima Sherpa (36) ended up in third with 146 points. Charlie Gurung also won the best individual score award with 41 points. Pratima Sherpa claimed the best female score award with 36 points. Phuntsok N Lama walked away with the longest drive and Gajendra Limbu the closest-to-the-pin awards. In all, 96 golfers including 25 pros took part in the Pro-Am event played under stableford 3/4 handicap format.
Top pro scorer was automatically teamed with top three amateurs for the winning team. Similarly fourth, fifth and sixth amateur scorer was teamed with second best professional scorer for runner-up team and those amateurs finishing seventh, eighth and ninth were teamed up with the third best professional for the second runner-up team.
The main event concluded on Thursday with Nepal No 1 Shivaram Shrestha winning the title with 14-under 274. He finished three strokes ahead of Surya Prasad Sharma and Sanjay Lama to earn a top prize of Rs 220,000 in the season finale of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2016-17.
