Subba, Shah claim 4 gold medals

Subba, who had claimed three gold medals in open category on Tuesday, won the men’s 200m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly gold to wrap up the meet with seven titles.
Shah finished first in the women’s 200m individual medley, 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly to add to the two gold she won on Tuesday.
Subba won the 200m freestyle in 2:17.83 minutes in a photo finish with Devesh Manandhar (2:17.85) of British College. Nassir Hussain of Lincoln was third in 2:35.50. He then won the 100m backstroke in 1:16.30 to beat Alexander Shah (1:18.65) and Manandhar (1:22.31).
The 100m freestyle belonged to Subba who completed the distance in 1:00.16 beating Manandhar (1:00.93) and Alexander (1:03.29). Subba’s final gold came in the 50m butterfly in 29.24 seconds. Manandhar was once again pushed to silver following a timing of 29.65, while Ugyen Sherpa of Lincoln was third in 31.56.
Shah, who had lost two titles on Tuesday, opened the day with 200m individual medley gold in 2:53.87 minutes. She beat Tisa Shakya (2:54.53) of Lincoln and Duana Lama (2:58.72) of John Dewey School. Shah then won the 100m backstroke gold with the timings of 1:22.96. Oshina Bharati (1:23.81) and Shreetika Singh (1:25.19) took silver and bronze respectively.
Shah’s third gold came in the 100m freestyle after she clocked 1:05.28 leaving behind Shakya (1:07.81) and Singh (1:11.22). The victory was followed by 50m butterfly gold where Shah timed 34.22 seconds beating Ayushma Tuladhar (35.56) and Bharati (35.72) of Lincoln. Niharika Tuladhar and Kiran Karki won the 50m breaststroke titles in the women’s and men’s categories respectively.
NSA picks up swimmers for Worlds
Nepal Swimming Association on Wednesday picked up four swimmers to compete in the 17th Fina World Swimming Championships to be held in Hungary from July 20-31. Suvam Shrestha and Anubhav Subba were selected in the men’s category, while Sofia Shah and Tisha Shakya were picked up in the women’s section. The four swimmers made the cut following the Fina points they received during the eighth Pramod Cup Swimming Championships that concluded on Wednesday. Kiran Karki and Niharika Tuladhar were named reserves. (PR)
