Real Madrid to hold junior camp in Kathmandu

The five-day camp will be held at the Modern Indian School football grounds where coaches from the club will provide children aged 9 to 18 years old with football training, leadership skills and team building activities. The organisers claim that the Uefa ‘A’ license holder coaches Daniel Landaburu Rotella and Rafael Palacios will be conducting the camp assisted by two AFC certified Nepali coaches.
Additionally, one of the best participants will get a chance to train at the Real Madrid Foundation Academy in Singapore for an all expenses-paid tour. According to the organisers, at least 70-80 football enthusiasts will benefit by the programme under first-come-first-serve basis.
“As an organisation committed to work in student’s development in sports and education field, the camp offers a perfect platform for the aspiring Nepali footballers to learn in a professional way,” said Bijay Kumar Khatri, Subharambha Managing Director and a former national basketball player.
National cricket team skipper Paras Khadka, who is an advisor in the organising committee, was excited to learn about the camp. “Real Madrid in itself is a big name and to see coaches from the club coming in Nepal to train Nepali students is marvellous,” said Khadka, who is a big fan of English Premier League club Liverpool.
“Its a great opportunity for Nepali young footballers who are serious with the sport. We hope that all the participants are going to benefit by the camp,” added Khadka.
The entry fee for the students will cover a cash of Rs 35,000 each which will include training, refreshments, transportation and Real Madrid kit. The programme has been supported by National Youth Council affiliated to the Youth and Sports Ministry.
Narayan Bahadur Shrestha, one of the organisers who is liaising with the Real Madrid Foundation from Singapore, lauded the initiative from Subharambha.
“I really appreciate the courage shown by the organisers to bring in coaches from one of the top clubs of the world. We have been in talks with the Foundation and the coaches it is sending are highly professionals,” said Shrestha.
