Nepal’s Badaila slams record double century
Padam Bahadur Badaila struck a record 211 runs to seal an emphatic 141-run win over New Zealand in their last game of the Twenty20 World Cup for Blind in Karnataka, India on Thursday.Padam Bahadur Badaila struck a record 211 runs to seal an emphatic 141-run win over New Zealand in their last game of the Twenty20 World Cup for Blind in Karnataka, India on Thursday.
Put into bat first, Nepal scored a mammoth 315-0 in 20 overs. Badaila carried his bat to the end to slam 36 boundaries in his 90-ball knock, while his opening partner Sovaram Dangi hit 53 not out. New Zealand were dismissed for 174 runs in 19.1 overs.
The double ton was the first that any Nepali blind cricketer has scored at any level and probably the first at the World Cup. The record could not be verified officially due to the lack of proper record keeping.
No other Nepali batsmen have even completed a century at the World Cup so far. The double ton from the Nepali blind cricketer comes a day after an Indian cricketer, Mohit Ahlawat, slammed a triple ton during a local twenty20 match in Delhi on Wednesday.
New Zealand opener BD Wilson top scored with 45-ball 72 as their innings folded five balls before their quota of 20 overs. Wilson struck eight boundaries in his knock. Sunil Subedi Chhetri took two, while Badri Chaulagain, Bikram Bahadur Rana and Kritan Shrestha claimed one wicket each for Nepal.
Already out of the semi-final contention, it was second victory for Nepal in the current T20 World Cup for the Blind and third overall. Nepal had defeated South Africa by six wickets earlier in the tournament, while their only other scalp was Bangladesh in 2012. Nepal are the only non-Test team to compete in the T20 World Cup for the Blind. Top four teams from the round robin league qualify for the semi-finals.
Summary
