Dhangadi, Janakpur roll on
Region 9 (Dhangadi) and Region 7 (Janakpur) cruised to their second consecutive victory in the Prime Minister Cup Women’s National Twenty20 Cricket Tournament on Thursday.In the first match of the day, Janakpur hammered Region 4 (Bhairahawa) by 58 runs, while Dhangadi eased past Region 6 (Baitadi) by seven wickets. Janakpur made 117-7 from their allotted 20 overs before stopping Bhairahawa at 59-7. Only Aashna Thapa (12) and Melina Thapa (10) managed to make runs in double figures for Bhairahawa.
Shanti Chaudhary picked up 2-6 from four overs for Janakpur who rode on decent knocks from Anuradha Chaudhary, Mamta Chaudhary and Saraswoti Chaudhary to build on a challenging total. Mamta made 34 off 32 with three boundaries, while Anuradha contributed 25 off 33 with a four. Saraswoti chipped in 17 off 16 with a boundary. Alisha Chhetri picked up two wickets for Bhairahawa.
Baitadi, meanwhile, managed to put 73-8 in board riding on 22 extra runs gifted by Dhangadi. Anjali Chand made 19 off 29 hitting Baitadi’s only three boundaries of the innings, while other Baitadi batswoman failed to make runs in double figures. Janaki Bhatta picked up two wickets for Dhangadi.
Dhangadi didn’t have the best of the start losing openers two wickets for just 12 runs but they reached 74-3 in just 11 overs after a half century partnership between Nirmala Shahi and Kavita Joshi. The two batswoman shared 53 runs for the third wicket to shape the team’s victory. Joshi made a run-a-ball 25 with five boundaries, while Shahi was unbeaten on a run-a-ball 23 with one four and the first six of the tournament.
In Pokhara, APF also won their second consecutive match with a 13-run victory over Region 5 Nepalgunj, while Region 3 (Kathmandu) opened their tournament campaign crushing Region 8 (Pokhara) by nine wickets.
APF made 87-7 in 20 overs with their middle order doing the bulk of scoring. Nepalgunj were 69-8 in 18.5 overs but no match was possible after that due to heavy rain. Nepalgunj needed to make 83 at that position with APF winning the match by 13 runs under Parabola Method. Manisha Rawal and Mamta Thapa made 15 runs each for Nepalgunj. Rubina Chhetri picked up 3-6 from four overs for the departmental side.
Earlier, APF lost opener Madhu Thapa (duck) with 14 runs on the board before Sita Rana Magar (15) and Jyoti Pandey shared 21 runs for the second wicket.
Pandey shared another 39 runs with Sarita Magar taking APF to a strong position. Pandey made 22 off 32 and Magar was unbeaten on 26 from 44. Both batswoman hit three boundaries each. Pratikshya GM picked up 3-14 from four overs for Nepalgunj.
In the first match reduced to 10-over-a-side due to wet outfield, Pokhara were restricted to 24-8 before 13 extra runs helped Kathmandu reach 27-1 in five overs. Sandhya Upreti picked up three wickets for Kathmandu with Ashmina Karmacharya having one scalp.
