Holyland defeated GGIC by seven wickets after New Horizon eased past Merryland College of Biratnagar with the same margin. GGIC boasted a host of players with international experience including Dipendra Chaudhary, Prithu Baskota, Aarif Sheikh, Aakash Gupta, Rupesh Srivastav, Faizlur Rehman Khan but they were surprisingly restricted to 109-8 in 20 overs. Holyland’s star-less batting lineup was expected to get tough time from strong GGIC bowling attack but they cruised to 113-3 with 12 balls to spare to produce the biggest upset of the tournament.
Holyland lost their opener Siddhant Raj Shahi (one) with just eight runs on the board but Anupam Singh and Prajjwal Shahi defied the GGIC attack putting on an 83-run match winning stand for the second wicket. Baskota, making a comeback in national events following a 9-month break due to a knee injury, dismissed Prajjwal but by then Holyland were just 18 runs shy of victory.
Man-of-the-match Singh scored 61 not out from 52 balls with 10 boundaries. Prajjwal made 35 off 42 with four boundaries and a six. Srivastav and Sheikh picked up a wicket each for GGIC.
In the first match, New Horizon bundled out Merryland for 76 runs in 16.1 overs after Saurav Khanal picked up 3-14 from four overs apart from affecting two run outs. New Horizon did lose three wickets in the process but had no trouble reaching 79-3 in 9.4 overs. Nirmal Thapa top scored with 22 not out off 18 with three boundaries for New Horizon.
