SPA Cup: Dhamala smashes ton, New Horizon triumph
Records galored as Sunrise HS School of Kanchanpur blanked Xavier International College of Kathmandu on the second day of the fourth SPA Cup Inter-college Cricket Tournament on Saturday.Opener Sunil Dhamala was the star of the day who smashed the first century of the tournament on his way to leading Sunrise set numerous record. Dhamala posted SPA Cup’s highest score by an individual with 127 not out off 68 taking Sunrise total to an all-time high 245-1 in 20 overs.
Left arm seamers Avinash Karn and Lalit Singh Bhandari then ripped through a listless Xavier batting attack before bundling them out for 78 in 19.2 overs. The victory margin of 167 runs is so far the highest in terms of runs in the tournament history.
Karn picked up 4-4 from four overs, while Bhandari took 2-9. Dhamala also starred with the bowl returning the figures of 2-13 from two overs. Ashesh Mainali (35 not out) was the only Xavier batsman to make some mark.
Man-of-the-match Dhamala stole the limelight snatching the match from Xavier sharing a record 215-run stand for the first wicket with Amit Shrestha. The partnership is the biggest for any wicket in the tournament. Shrestha made 83 off 52 with nine fours and four sixes. Dhamala’s powerpacked innings included 14 boundaries and six sixes.
In another one-sided match, New Horizon College of Butwal routed Kailali Multiple Campus of Dhangadhi by 137 runs. New Horizon posted 194-6 in 20 overs on the back of an unbeaten half century from Prakash KC. A five-wicket haul from Rahul Prajapti saw Kailali skittle out for 56 in 14.2 overs. Roman Bom (15) and Bipin Rawal (21) were the only positives for Kailali. Prajapati took 5-6 from four.
Earlier, Sandip Sunar (39) and Nirmal Thapa (21) shared 48 runs for the second wicket for New Horizon. Sunar made 39 off 37 clobbering five boundaries and two sixes.
Kami and KC rebuilt New Horizon innings with a 63-run stand. Kami was out for 28 off 17. KC cruised to 62 off 27with eight fours and four sixes.
