MMC take on Jhapa in opener
Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) will take on Jhapa Football Club in the inaugural match of the Anfa Cup Football Tournament at the Dashrath Stadium on Tuesday.In all, six top flight clubs including the league champions MMC will play for the Rs 1 million top prize tournament organised by the All Nepal Football Association (Anfa). Among the other top tier teams in the tournament include Three Star Club, Sankata Club, Nepal Police Club, Armed Police Force Club and Tribhuvan Army Club. Jhapa and Morang Football Club have been handpicked following league runners-up Machhindra FC and eight-placed Friends Club opted out of the tournament. The two clubs, who are at loggerheads with Anfa of late, were than banned from all competition for one year recently.
The organisers will have to use only two sections of the stadium considering the ongoing renovation of the facility in Tripursewor. “Only limited number of tickets will be sold for the tournament due to ongoing he maintenance of the Dashrath Stadium,” said Spokesperson and Vice-president of Anfa Lalit Krishna Shrestha. The champions will walk away with Rs 1 million with Rs 500,000 set aside for the runners-up. Third the losing semi-finalist will take home Rs 100,000 each.
Similarly, the best forward, midfielder, defence, goalkeeper and coach will be rewarded with Rs 50,000 each. The best player of the tournament will ride home with a motorcycle, informed Anfa at a press meet on Sunday. The final has been scheduled for September 10.
