Anfa technical director quits
All Nepal Football Association (Anfa) Technical Director Krishna Thapa on Friday stepped down from the job accusing president Ganesh Thapa of strangulating the Nepali football. The former national team coach portrayed the Anfa president as a dictator who has been running the Nepali football on his whims and fancies for the last 19 years. He also quesioned the transparency of Anfa, especially on financial matters.
Krishna, who had been assigned as the Anfa technical director for the last 27 months without ever receiving any formal appointment letter, accused the Anfa president of bringing shame to the country through his recent corruption allegations and demanded his resignation on morale grounds.
“Despite assuming the post — without actually having any authority at all — I was only verbally asked to undertake the assignment,” said Krishna Thapa who claimed that he was underpaid for the job. “I never actually got the appointment letter and knew the reason for that. I was paid $80 a month but found out that the regional football governing body, AFC, was actually sending $1,500 allowance for the job holder,” claimed the former coach.
Krishna further accused the Anfa president of deceiving everybody including the AFC by appointing technical manpowers but bestowing no power and authority at all. “What is the point of appointing a technical director and a head coach if he (Ganesh) is to hand-pick the team himself,” questioned Krishna.
He also hit out at a reappointment of Jack Stefanowski as the head coach. “As a technical director Anfa should have consulted me before the re-appointment of Stefanowski but that never happened. Remarkably no one knows Stefanowski’s credetials as a coach or his perks and salaries,” he said.
