Continuous rainfall has caused major traffic disruptions in Kavre and Bhaktapur, affecting both the BP and Araniko highways.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista, information officer at the District Police Office Kavre, said the BP Highway is fully blocked at multiple points, including Chaukidanda in ward 6 of Namobuddha Municipality, Charsayabensi in ward 7 of Roshi Rural Municipality, Dalabensi in ward 11, Koksikuna Biruwadanda, and Narke in ward 9.
Landslides have blocked traffic in both directions. Travellers are advised to check road conditions before setting out.
In Bhaktapur, traffic along the Sanga section of the Araniko Highway, connecting Bhaktapur and Kavre, is restricted to one-way movement due to muddy conditions caused by rainfall.
Traffic Police Inspector Jharana Sonar said a gas bullet truck got stuck in the mud, forcing authorities to divert vehicles through Jagati, Chyamasingh, and Nala.
Sonar said that a crane has been called to remove the stuck truck, and efforts are ongoing to restore two-way traffic. On Thursday, another gas bullet truck had also been stuck in the same area, prompting temporary diversions. Although gravel was added to the road, vehicles again faced difficulties on Friday morning due to mud.
The Sanga area is prone to slippery conditions during rain, as the Suryabinayak–Dhulikhel section of the Araniko Highway is being upgraded to six lanes. Vehicles heading uphill from Bhaktapur to Kavre often struggle on the muddy road, causing repeated delays and disruptions.
