Bagmati Province Chief Minister Rajendra Pandey resigned from the post on Friday. The chief minister handed over his resignation to province chief Yadav Chandra Sharma.
Pandey had drawn flak for taking an oath of office and secrecy as a federal lawmaker without resigning from his current post. Pandey took oath as a member of the House of Representatives in Kathmandu on Thursday without resigning from the post of chief minister.
He had argued that he did not resign as Sher Bahadur Deuba had also resigned from the post of prime minister.
“There was no need to resign as per the constitution. However, I made the decision to create an environment for the formation of a new government,” said Pandey.
Pandey, who is also the vice-chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist), became chief minister on October 29, 2021. He was elected to the lower house from Dhading-1 in the November 20 polls.
