Three girls, aged 7 to 11, drowned in the Krishnakhola at Khajurbari in ward 9 of Gauradaha Municipality on Thursday.
According to the District Police Office in Jhapa, Sushma Magar, aged 7, Swikriti Magar, aged 9, and Roshani Pariyar, aged 11, drowned while they were fishing in the stream.
One Unisha Rai, aged 10, who accompanied the victims, survived the incident. She immediately informed the guardians about the tragedy.
Locals retrieved the girls from the stream, but they were already dead. Police said a detailed investigation into the incident is underway.
