Two women died and another was injured in an electrocution incident during a wedding event in ward 3 of Ratuwamai Municipality, Morang, on Tuesday evening.

According to police, a bamboo pole holding a speaker for Niraj Kumar Singh’s wedding was knocked over by strong winds at around 8:20 pm. The pole fell onto a high-tension electricity line, causing a surge of current that struck bystanders.

Suryadevi Gangai, 73, wife of Satarulal Gangai, and Ramudevi Gangai, 70, wife of Jatarulal Gangai—both neighbours—suffered severe injuries and were rushed to Rangeli Hospital. They died during treatment at around 9:00pm, police at the Sijuwa Area Police Office said.

Another woman, Radha Kumari Singh, sustained minor injuries and was discharged after receiving treatment at the municipal hospital in Jhorkiya.

Police from Mahadeva Police Post and Sijuwa Area Police Office were deployed to the scene, and further investigation is underway.
