Two sisters were killed after being hit by a jeep near Diyam Gate on the road leading to Triyuga Bus Park in Gaighat, the district headquarters of Udayapur.

The deceased were identified as 14-year-old Anu Kumari Das and 12-year-old Devi Kumari Das, originally from Rajbiraj, Saptari, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Kedarman Dong, information officer at the District Police Office, Udayapur.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening when a jeep heading towards Triyuga Bus Park from Gaighat Bazaar struck the sisters while they were sitting on the roadside. Anu Kumari died on the spot, while Devi Kumari succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Udayapur District Hospital.

Police have taken the driver, 18-year-old Nirjal Katuwal of ward 9 in Triyuga Municipality, in custody.
