Wildlife photographer Chungba Sherpa passes away

Renowned wildlife photographer Chungba Sherpa passed away on Monday. He was 64.
Sherpa breathed his last at 12:15am while undergoing treatment at the Kathmandu-based Grande Hospital.
A resident of ward 1 of Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu, Sherpa, had been receiving treatment for liver-related ailments for a week. He was on ventilator life support, according to ward chair Phunuru Sherpa.
Chungba is survived by two sons and three daughters. A long-time member of the Nepali Congress, he also served as the president of the party’s Khumbu Pasanglhamu chapter. In two previous local elections, Chungba contested for the rural municipality chair.
Tourism entrepreneur Chungba was also the former chair of then Chaurikharka Village Development Committee.
In recent years, Chungba had established himself as a prominent wildlife photographer and was affiliated with several national and international photography organisations.
His passion for photography took him from the remote village of Chaurikharka in Nepal to the wild landscapes of Tanzania in East Africa. His work transcends boundaries. His photographs have been featured in newspapers, journals, calendars, and books worldwide—from Hong Kong and India to Switzerland and beyond—becoming windows into Nepal’s natural beauty.
