Namo Narayan Majhi of the CPN (Maoist Centre) has been elected chair of Gramthan Rural Municipality in Morang. Majhi won with 6,969 votes, defeating Balram Sardar Tharu of the Nepali Congress, who secured 5,333 votes.
Tulsi Ram Biswas claimed third place with 4,159 votes, followed by Dinesh Kumar Thandar of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party with 555 votes.
The by-election was held following the death of Jaya Prakash Gachhadar, the Congress chair elected in the 2022 local elections.
