A convict who escaped the Jhumka regional prison nine years ago has been arrested. Vinayak Kumar Yadav, alias Chandrashekhar, was arrested during the Chhath festival while visiting his village in ward 8 of Koshi Rural Municipality in Sunsari.
Yadav, sentenced to 20 years for the 2008 murder of Keshav Karki, had previously escaped twice by digging tunnels—first from Jhumka prison and later from Sindhupalchok prison after the 2015 earthquake.
Police fired a warning shot during his recent arrest, but Yadav surrendered and has been sent back to prison to serve his remaining sentence, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Ram Prasad Timilsina.
