One person died in an elephant attack in Haldibari Rural Municipality of Jhapa on Wednesday morning.

Sixty-year-old Pathal Rajbanshi, who was out on his morning walk, was killed by the pachyderm, said the district police office.

Rajbanshi’s body was recovered some 200 metres from his residence on Wednesday noon. The body has been taken to the Bhadrapur Provincial Hospital and will be handed over to the family after the postmortem, police said.

Earlier on December 1, 40-year-old Dhan Bahadur Ban was also killed in an elephant attack, said Division Forest Office Head Megh Raj Rai. Ban was a forest patrol guard.
