Panchthar

A child was injured when a grenade went off in Panchthar district on Saturday morning.

According to police, eight-year-old Niraj Khadka, son of local Manoj Khadka, was injured when the grenade exploded at around 11am.

Niraj had found the grenade that is said to be a remnant of the armed conflict in a forest in Phalgunanda Rural Municipality-4.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Khatiwada said the grenade went off while the child was playing with it thinking it was a toy.

Locals rescued the child, who has sustained injuries on the right side of his chest, stomach and face, and sent him to Jhapa for treatment.
