Panchthar
Five people lost their lives and two others remained missing after Tuesday night’s landslides in Panchthar district, police said on Wednesday.
The overnight landslides following unseasonal rainfall struck Phidim, the district headquarters, Miklajung, Phalgunanda and Kummayak.
District police said a 25-year-old woman and her five-year-old son were among the five people confirmed dead, while two people remained unaccounted for.
Landslides triggered by heavy rains have also disrupted vehicular movement in several sections of the Ilam-Phidim and Phidim-Taplejung roads.
