A key constituent of the ruling coalition, CPN (Unified Socialist), in its manifesto has tried to justify as to why the split of the CPN-UML and formation of the new party had become imperative last year.
The Unified Socialist party, which was formed after a vertical split in the CPN-UML, claimed that the revolt in the party was essential because the UML chair KP Sharma Oli had allegedly betrayed people’s aspirations. The party was formed under the leadership of former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal in August last year.
In its 56-page election manifesto, the party has said that they had to revolt because the UML’s activities had caused great loss to the communist movement in the country.
“We tried our best to correct rampant opportunism, anti-communist ideology, and [the leadership’s] conduct and working style but we decided to revolt after we came to a conclusion that was not possible,” states the manifesto.
Leaders including party general secretary Beduram Bhusal had unveiled the manifesto for November 20 federal and provincial polls amid a function at the party headquarters on Monday.
However, the party has not mentioned anything about the dissolution of parliament by the UML chair twice which led to the formation of the new party.
The party has also proposed some populist programmes like establishing multi-technical education centres at all the districts and providing up to 200 units of electricity free of cost. The Unified Socialist has stressed the need for technical education for which the party said the education policy should be changed in such a way that 70 percent of the human resources are trained on technical subjects.
The party has mentioned the works of the previous UML-led governments but has come down heavily against former prime minister and UML chair Oli.
