A note from the publisher
On the 28th anniversary of Kantipur Publications, Chairman and Managing Director, Kailash Sirohiya reiterates commitment to stand unequivocally in favour of democracy, rule of law and constitutional principles and values.Kantipur Publications completes its 28 years and turns 29 today. On this occasion, on behalf of the Kantipur Media Group, I would like to extend my heartfelt wishes and congratulations.
In our journey of nearly three decades, we have been a witness to many ups and downs and faced various challenges; and we have been successfully overcoming them. But we had never seen a crisis like the recent one. Covid-19 brought the whole world to its knees, and Nepal was no exception. There was no way the publications could have escaped the crisis. Scores of our colleagues and well-wishers were directly affected by the pandemic. Some even lost their near and dear ones. My condolences to the families and kin of those who lost their lives.
The past year has been pretty difficult for us all. It was not easy to cope with the crisis induced by the pandemic. But with your wishes and support, we have been able to overcome the situation to a large extent. But the crisis is not over yet; it will be some more time before we return to the pre-pandemic days. But the way we managed to deal with the crisis has given us the confidence to keep marching ahead. Considering the post-Covid-19 scenario, we are preparing to upgrade and make ourselves more adaptive to the needs of changing times.
I firmly believe that I will continue to receive your constructive support.
You all are well aware of the fact that the pandemic-induced economic slowdown has had a profound impact on society. We are no exception. But that is not going to impact our commitment to journalism. Despite the crisis, we have installed an ultra-modern printing press in Biratnagar with the objective of reaching more and more readers on time. We have also upgraded our digital platforms. This will continue in the coming year as well.
The fact that the pandemic was accompanied by a political crisis made things all the more difficult. But as always, we have unequivocally stood in favour of democracy, rule of law and constitutional principles and values. The House dissolution case is sub judice in the Supreme Court. We are confident that the honourable court, in upholding the constitution, will rectify the move in which the body of elected representatives was suddenly dissolved. What we are doing at Kantipur Publications is not just business; we are fulfilling our responsibility towards society. We have always stood by the people whenever the country has faced a crisis. We are fulfilling the same duty this time as well.
I would again like to congratulate and express my gratitude to, our readers, dealers, distributors, advertisers, advertising agencies and well-wishers on the 28th anniversary of Kantipur Publications.
Thank you.
Kailash Sirohiya
