Victims were working at the hotel where safety standards had earlier been found lacking.

Two Nepali women died in a fire at a three-storey hotel in Tătarani, Romania, on September 29. The hotel lies about 60 kilometres from the capital, Bucharest.
According to the Nepali Embassy in Germany, which oversees Romanian affairs, the victims are 21-year-old Soni Limbu of Mai Municipality-7, Ilam, and 24-year-old Sushmita Tamang of Dakshinkali Municipality-9, Kathmandu.
The embassy said another Nepali worker, 22-year-old Sumina Magar of Chulachuli Municipality-3, Ilam, was injured while being rescued but has since been discharged from the hospital.
Local Nepalis said Limbu had been working at the hotel for a year and Tamang for five months. Narayan Bahadur BK from Myagdi, who also works there, said the fire broke out around 7am. “Soni and Sushmita were staying in the staff room on the top floor. They had a duty from 7am. When the fire started, they called for help. The fire engine arrived quickly, but they could not be saved,” BK told the Post.
Before the incident, local authorities had fined the hotel 100,000 Romanian Leu and shut it down for failing to meet safety standards. Renovation work, including electrical repairs, was underway when the fire occurred.
Sagar Phuyal, deputy chief of mission at the Nepali Embassy in Germany, said coordination is ongoing with the victims’ families, the employer, and the Romanian government. “The immediate priority is to send the bodies to Nepal. The employer will bear the repatriation costs. Compensation will take longer, but we are working to secure it for the victims’ families,” he said.
