At least 147 local elected representatives, government employees, teachers and security personnel remain unaccounted for following the devastating Bhotekoshi floods, according to government data.

The 147 are among 3,916 people still missing after the floods swept through Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading on August 26.

The missing include eight local elected representatives, 32 employees working for local governments, 24 other government employees and 83 security personnel. The figures put the total number of missing elected representatives and government employees at 64, while security personnel account for the remaining 83.

The bodies of two government employees have been recovered and identified. Unless the government’s underlying dataset specifies otherwise, those two should be included as part of the reported employee figures rather than added to them.

According to data compiled by the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, seven elected representatives from Gosainkunda Rural Municipality in Rasuwa remain missing. They include vice-chairperson Pratima Tamang, ward chairpersons Kami Chhiring Tamang and Dawa Mingyar Tamang, executive committee member Karmu Tamang, and ward members Laxmi Pariyar, Kami Sidar Ghale and Sonam Chhiring Ghale.

An executive committee member, Gyanu BK, from Uttargaya Rural Municipality is also missing.

Thirty-two employees working for the two rural municipalities are also unaccounted for, including 11 teachers. The missing local-government personnel include health workers, agricultural technicians, social mobilisers, office assistants, information technology officers and accounting staff, according to Dipak Dhakal, head of the disaster management section at the ministry.

Dhakal said the figures were based on information available to the ministry so far and would be updated as new information emerges.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has separately reported that 83 security personnel remain missing. They include 45 members of the Nepal Army, 25 Nepal Police personnel and 13 members of the Armed Police Force.

Among other government employees reported missing are 15 staff members of the Rasuwa Customs Office in Timure, three employees of the Rasuwa Immigration Office, three from the Plant Quarantine Office in Timure and three from Langtang National Park.

A further 639 workers and employees at various hydropower projects remain unaccounted for, according to the disaster management authority.

The authority said on Wednesday that 1,114 bodies had been recovered so far, while 3,916 people remained missing.
