Kathmandu District Court grants police more time to investigate the alleged privacy law violation.Post Report
The Kathmandu District Court on Monday authorised police to keep Kishor Shrestha, editor of the weekly Jana Aastha, in custody for another four days for investigation.
Shrestha, who was arrested on August 12, was produced before the court after the three-day detention period previously granted by the court expired. Dan Bahadur Thapa, spokesperson and superintendent of police at the Kathmandu District Police Range, said the court granted the police’s request to extend his detention by four days to continue the investigation.
The Supreme Court had earlier directed authorities to produce Shrestha before the apex court on Monday.
A joint team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and the Kathmandu District Police Range arrested Shrestha. Police are investigating him on allegations of violating the Privacy Act, 2018.
