Arya Pharma Lab, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club and Matrika Eye Centre, is conducting 60 free cataract surgeries in Kathmandu on Saturday as part of a community healthcare initiative aimed at restoring vision for people from underserved communities.

The charitable eye camp is being held at Matrika Eye Centre in Old Baneshwor, where a team of five ophthalmic surgeons is carrying out the procedures for patients who face financial barriers to accessing specialised eye care.

Arya Pharma Lab said the initiative reflects its commitment to corporate social responsibility and improving access to essential healthcare services.

“Vision is a fundamental human right, not a privilege. Seeing a patient regain their sight and smile again is the greatest reward we could ask for,” the company said in a statement. “Our core driving force is deeply rooted in uplifting the health and well-being of the Nepalese people.”

Cataract remains one of the leading causes of avoidable blindness, particularly among elderly people and those with limited access to medical facilities. Untreated cataracts can affect people’s ability to work, carry out daily activities and live independently.

Through the eye camp, the partner organisations are providing surgery free of cost to patients who may otherwise be unable to afford treatment.

Arya Pharma Lab said Saturday’s procedures mark the beginning of a broader healthcare outreach programme, with plans for additional free surgical camps and health initiatives across Nepal.

The company said such programmes aim not only to restore eyesight but also to improve the quality of life of individuals and families affected by preventable vision loss.
