New staff, election materials sent to two polling centres after Ramechhap crash

Election materials and additional staff were dispatched on Tuesday to two polling centres in Ramechhap after a vehicle carrying polling officials was involved in an accident on Monday.
The jeep was headed to polling centres at Siruwari in ward 2 and Sanghutar in ward 3 of Ramechhap Municipality when it lost control while reversing and plunged around 100 metres.
According to Narayan Lamichhane, chief election officer at the District Election Office, Ramechhap, ballot papers, voter lists and other materials were recovered safely from the accident site on Monday night and brought to the Office of Returning Officer in Manthali.
“Some polling officers and assistant polling officers could not reach the centres after the accident,” Lamichhane said. “In coordination with the Office of Returning Officer, necessary staff and materials have been sent on time.”
Dor Prasad Ghimire, 57, of ward 1 of Manthali Municipality, who was deployed as a polling officer at the centre in Sanghutar, died during treatment at Manthali Hospital on Monday evening.
Assistant Sub Inspector Parshuram Yadav, originally from ward 1 of Rubani Rural Municipality in Saptari and deployed at the District Police Office, Ramechhap, also died in the incident.
Seven injured persons, including three women and four men, were airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment by a Nepali Army helicopter.
