Tourist guide dies of altitude sickness

A trekking guide died apparently of altitude sickness while returning from Phu village in ward 5 of Narpabhumi Rural Municipality of Manang district on Sunday.
Chief District Officer Nabaraj Paudel identified the deceased as 44-year-old Ram Thapa Magar of ward 7 of Bhanu Municipality in Tanahun district. Thapa had been accompanying a group of British trekkers as their guide and fell ill on Saturday afternoon while returning from Phu village.
Police said they were informed about the incident around 7 am on Sunday. A three-member rescue team led by Inspector Hari Bahadur Pandey from the Meta Police Post was immediately dispatched to the site.
Thapa had reportedly stayed overnight at a local hotel in ward 2 of Narpabhumi. However, before he could be airlifted for treatment, he was found dead in the hotel room at around 7:15 am.
