Oli rejects Karki-led inquiry commission, calls it a ‘fake body’
UML chief criticised the government, questioning whether ministers would dare to investigate their own properties before calling for others to be scrutinised.

CPN-UML chair and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli has declared that his party will not accept the Gauri Bahadur Karki-led judicial commission formed to investigate the loss of lives and property during the September 8–9 Gen Z movement.
Speaking at an event in Gundu, Bhaktapur on Thursday, Oli questioned the impartiality of the commission and its coordinator, Gauri Bahadur Karki, saying there were serious doubts over his credibility.
“The UML and the people will not accept this commission,” Oli said, adding that former judge Karki should have resigned on moral grounds before leading such an investigation.
Oli also criticised the government, questioning whether ministers would dare to investigate their own properties before calling for others to be scrutinised. “If you really want to probe property, do it ten times. But will the ministers allow their own assets to be investigated?” he asked.
He accused the government of forming a biased commission aimed at targeting him. “You have created a so-called commission of those who already say ‘Oli must be arrested and prosecuted’ and then pretend to investigate and act on that report. This is a staged drama, and the UML will not accept it,” he said.
Oli’s remarks come at a time when Gen Z groups have been demanding his immediate arrest, accusing him of excessive use of force during last month’s protests, which resulted in significant loss of life and property. Sharpening criticism against the government’s recent decisions, the Oli-led UML is increasingly hardening its position against the interim government and its plan to hold elections in March 2026.
