A fire broke out at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj early Tuesday morning, causing significant damage but no loss of life.
According to hospital spokesperson Dr Udaynarayan Singh, the blaze started around 4 am on the third floor of the hospital due to an electrical short circuit in a storage room.
The flames quickly engulfed the stored materials, destroying two monitors, an LED screen, oxygen plant pipes, masks, NICU equipment and other supplies worth an estimated Rs1 million.
The Birgunj Metropolitan City fire brigade brought the fire under control before it could spread further.
While the blaze damaged medical equipment, there were no human casualties. Infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit were safely transferred to other departments for continued treatment.
Hospital authorities said normal services have resumed, though recovery of the destroyed equipment will take time.
