Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is on a five-day official visit to Thailand, held talks with his Thai counterpart Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, Prime Minister Oli’s Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic Development Advisor Yubaraj Khatiwada, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, and Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, among others.

Earlier, Shinawatra welcomed Oli at a government building in Thailand, where he was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour.

The two countries signed agreements on cultural and tourism collaboration following the talks. Foreign Minister Rana signed the agreement on behalf of Nepal.

“In addition to the Cultural Agreement and the MoU on Tourism Cooperation, several other agreements have been signed between non-governmental industries of both countries to strengthen Nepal-Thailand ties,” Rana said in a post on X.

The two prime ministers held a joint press conference.

Oli is also set to attend a luncheon hosted by Shinawatra and hold a courtesy meeting with King Maha Vajiralongkorn later today.

Leading the Nepali delegation for his first official visit to Thailand and to attend the summit, Prime Minister Oli left for Bangkok on Tuesday. The visit marks the first official visit by a Nepali prime minister to Thailand in 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. ​

The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Nepal and Thailand, focusing on cooperation in sectors such as tourism and culture.

Prime Minister Oli’s delegation includes his spouse, Radhika Shakya, and Foreign Minister Deuba.

The visit also encompasses participation in the 6th Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit, where Oli will address regional leaders and engage in discussions to bolster multilateral cooperation. ​

He is scheduled to return to Nepal on April 5.
