16 dead, 145 injured in fire incidents across Nepal in five months
Over 1,100 incidents reported nationwide, causing an estimated loss of Rs499 million.Post Report
Fire incidents across the country have claimed at least 16 lives and left 145 people injured in a period of five months–from 16 July to 15 December, 2024.
According to the Nepal Police Headquarters, of those who died in fire-related incidents, five were men and 11 were women.
Among the injured, 72 were men and 73 were women, including three boys and five girls. Additionally, 29 people were displaced by the fires.
During this period, 1,116 fire incidents occurred across the country, and according to the police, 455 livestock were affected by the fires.
A total of 190 houses, 130 cattle sheds, and one government office were damaged. The total loss from these fires in five months is estimated at Rs499 million.
The highest number of fire incidents occurred in Koshi Province, with 331 cases, followed by Madhesh, with 269. In Bagmati Province, 210 fire incidents were reported, with 140 in the Kathmandu Valley alone. Lumbini saw 114 incidents, Gandaki 81, Sudurpaschim 60 and Karnali 51.
According to police records, 8,322 police personnel were deployed for fire control and rescue operations.
