The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai on bail in a cybercrime case. Judge Bishnu Prasad Awasthi ordered the release of Prasai upon the latter’s posting a bail amount of Rs40,000, Ramu Sharma, a court official said on Thursday.
Despite the bail order, Prasai will remain in police custody as investigations into organised crime charges against him are ongoing.
Earlier, the court had authorised his detention for further inquiry into allegations of involvement in organised criminal activities.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested Prasai from his residence in Bhaktapur on November 19.
