GSKH encourages youth participation in politics
The initiative aims to equip young leaders with the knowledge and skills required to navigate federal Nepal’s political processes. The Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub (GSKH) hosted a pivotal event titled Nepal’s Youth in Politics: Findings and Future Direction in Kathmandu on December 1. The initiative, part of the Shaping Political Futures project, aims to empower young Nepali leaders through knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
The event unveiled the findings of a knowledge gap analysis conducted with young politicians from diverse parties and ideologies. The study highlighted key challenges such as resource constraints, lack of mentorship, and limited awareness of legal frameworks. To address these gaps, GSKH launched Politics Ma Paila, a political literacy programme designed to enhance young people's understanding of Nepal’s political landscape and encourage active participation in governance.
The programme combined workshops, experience-sharing sessions, and fireside chats, connecting youth, politicians, and changemakers. It focused on equipping young leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate federal Nepal’s political processes, with a particular emphasis on engaging women and marginalised communities.
“This is not just an event, it is a movement,” said Shristi Vaidya, the Outgoing Curator of GSKH. “By connecting youth with experienced leaders, we are building a foundation for a more inclusive and responsible political system.”
Recognised with the prestigious Innovation Prize Award 2024 by the World Economic Forum, the Shaping Political Futures project reflects a commitment to fostering a politically informed and proactive generation, Samana Lawati, said. a gender rights activist, emphasised, “Politics Ma Paila bridges critical gaps, empowering Nepal’s youth to lead with confidence and accountability.”
GSKH, an initiative of the World Economic Forum, is a network of young leaders working to address local challenges and foster meaningful change in their respective communities.
