Chandra Prasad Dhakal, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and honorary consul of Indonesia to Nepal, has been honoured with the Caraka Buwana Award by the Indonesian government. The award, presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, recognises individuals who have significantly contributed to strengthening bilateral relations with Indonesia.
The award was handed over by Heru H. Subolo, the ambassador of Indonesia to Nepal, on behalf of the Indonesian government, during a special ceremony held in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
Ambassador Subolo commended Dhakal’s efforts, stating, “Dhakal’s unwavering commitment has significantly strengthened our nations' bond, fostering a collaborative spirit that benefits both countries.”
In his acceptance speech, Dhakal expressed gratitude for the recognition, noting that it serves as motivation to work toward mutual growth and prosperity between Nepal and Indonesia.
He highlighted two recent landmark agreements: the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism and the Visa Exemption Agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports.
“I am especially encouraged by these agreements,” Dhakal said. “They will enhance diplomatic ties, facilitate official travel, and pave the way for greater economic cooperation, tourism, and regional collaboration.”
Dhakal also remarked on the growing number of Nepali travellers to Indonesia, particularly to Bali, which has become a popular destination. He suggested introducing an on-arrival visa for Nepali tourists to further enhance cultural and tourism ties.
Dhakal was previously honoured by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for his contributions to rescue and relief efforts during Nepal’s 2015 earthquake.
Dhakal has served as Indonesia’s honorary consul in Nepal since 2010.
